Hi All,

I've recently had some online problems, and in the process of
researching them, I found out that LinkedIn.com had a security breach in
June-2018 -- affecting 159.8M members!  I'm sad to say that I might have
been one of them.

I've left the service.  If you were linked to me, I'm not trying to be
anti-social; just trying to protect myself.  You can still reach me
through my regular email, or through this forum.

Unfortunately, such is life in 2018.  YMMV.

My apologies for anyone receiving this through duplicate mailing groups.

Hi Bruce,

Can you give a link to where this is reported? I can only find reference to the earlier breach in 2012.

Thanks.

It was reported to me by LifeLock, the identity protection service. (I
am a paid member.)

I don't know where to find this information outside of this service.
Past experience shows that these kinds of issues take months, sometimes
years to become public.  A great example is last year's Equifax hack.
However, it would seem that LifeLock would have a huge financial
exposure if they published libelous or slanderous warnings.

Just to be clear:  I have learned this information though LifeLock. I
have no confirmation from LinkedIn, but I have decided to be safe and
leave that forum.  I have been an online retailer of musical gear for
more than 10 years, and many of my customers belong to one or more of
the three forums that I posted to today.  I wasn't trying to sound an
alarm, but to pass on information that seemed reasonably valid, and to
explain my disappearance from LinkedIn.

Forum members should do their own research, and draw their own
conclusions about the forums and services that they subscribe to.

Regards,

-BW

I guess what has happened is that the information from LinkedIn has been cross-referenced with other sites such as Netflix, tumblr and a few more. I don't think this is a fresh breach, but it seems the data has taken on a life of it's own. And of course you know that every single Yahoo ID has been hacked as well. Don't use Yahoo Mail for anything important. I have a list of security pages I follow at my work, but off the top of my head https://krebsonsecurity.com/ https://krebsonsecurity.com/ comes to mind.
